Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept - front

The new Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept — dedicated to the company’s Chinese brand ambassador, World Badminton Champion Lin Dan — features a world-first case material combo and innovative openworked design that make it one of the lightest mechanical timepieces in the world.

The watch’s case middle, caseback, bezel, and crown are crafted from a combination of Kevlar/carbon, a highly resistant synthetic fiber, and ITR2 (“Innovative, Technical, Revolutionary Resin”), a composite material charged with carbon nanotubes that is eight times lighter than steel and four times lighter than titanium. Along with the lugs, made of black DLC-coated titanium, this amalgam of high-tech materials makes for a case weighing a mere 14.88 grams — the perfect featherweight timepiece for the wrist of a badminton player.

The lugs have been skeletonized, satin-finished, and rendered extraordinarily scratch-resistant by the DLC coating. The ITR2/Kevlar/Carbon crown is finished with Montblanc’s famous star emblem, and the crystals on both the front and back of the case are made of mineral glass rather than sapphire, a decision made to further enhance theMontblanc Watches World Replica’s overall lightness. Measuring 40 mm in diameter, the case has alternating matte and satin finishing, and a bright red circle made of ITR2, which references the Chinese flag of Montblanc’s brand ambassador.

Montblanc TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept - dial CU

The skeletonization of the movement, with the titanium mainplate serving as a nontraditional dial, was not only an aesthetic choice but also a further step toward making theMontblanc Watches Tourbillon Replica as lightweight, yet robust, as possible. The anthracite-colored, skeletonized, small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock is made of ultra-light anodized aluminum and applied directly to the mainplate. The red-arrow-tipped seconds hand echoes the bezel ring and enhances legibility. Engraved on the mainplate at 8 ‘clock are five stars representing the five major championships of the Badminton Grand Slam, while two stars representing Lin Dan’s two championship rounds are engraved at 3 o’clock. The minute track is engraved directly onto the mainplate, with black dots framed in gray for the five-minute markers. The hour and minute hands are skeletonized, lance-shaped, and formed from black anodized aluminum.

Montblanc produced a new movement, manually wound Caliber MB M62.48, for the TimeWalker Pythagore Ultra-Light Concept. It is a modern-day reinvention of the Minerva Pythagore caliber, a historical movement designed by chronograph specialist Minerva (now Montblanc Manufacture) in 1943. Both the original movement and the modern watch derive their name from the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras, whose Golden Ratio inspired the shape of the movement’s straight architectural bridges.

The skeletonized mainplate and five bridges are made of titanium, with the alternating satin and grained finishing on the bridges creating a three-dimensional effect. Composed of 153 parts, including 19 jewels, the movement features hand-chamfered, hand-polished, and satin finishing, holds a power reserve of 50 hours, and weighs just 4.73 grams.
